Seven Maples Art & Illustration
Welcome to my website, where you will find watercolours that celebrate and explore, in my own unique way, a fascination and love for British nature and wildlife. From mysterious woods, magical native plants and animals to the hidden beauty of nature that is often overlooked or taken for granted, I like to explore them all in watercolour and ink.
What's the story?
To begin with I trained in Theatre Studies and Design at Central School of Speech and Drama specialising in Costume and Set Design. I have always loved storytelling, from writing short stories and drawing comic books as a child to watching or taking part in theatre and film. I was an imaginative child, and always loved to transport myself to somewhere else. After years of struggling to break into the theatre world, and working in many casual low paid jobs, the last of which I lost due to the pandemic, I began to rethink my life. In 2022, with encouragement from family, I started online painting lessons with the W.E.A, specifically landscape painting and watercolour skills, led by wonderful tutors Karen Davis and Deborah Gordon. There I learned incredibly both practical and professional skills, gained knowledge on paints, pigments, painting from photographs versus plein air, what paper to use, light and tone, how to paint the distance and much more. Armed with this knowledge I started to paint independently, and in September 2024 I rented my first art studio.
